The Sydney CBD is the city’s most popular area to have an affair, according to website Ashley Madison. Alex Dalland reports.

Sydney City topped the recently released list of ‘Cheating Hotspots’, as the location of over 10% of the website’s clients.  In the North Shore, North Sydney ranked at number 6 on the list with 7.8% of Sydney’s user share. East Killara also ranked at number 9, with 6.2% of greater Sydney’s users coming from the suburb.

Over 1 million Australians are using the website, with over 270,000 members coming from greater Sydney. Clients of the dating site – which bears the slogan ‘Life is short, have an affair’ – indicate a lack of satisfaction in their marriage as their primary reason for joining, without wanting a divorce from their partner.

“My husband of 30 years informed me on Christmas Eve that he’d been visiting escort girls for the past 5 years,” Ashley Madison client Sylvie says.

“Needless to say, our marriage has undergone a dramatic change for the best, and my journey over the past couple of years has been astounding!

“We are still happily married but with a twist. I’ve rediscovered my sexuality and more”.

Another client, Karina claims the website has helped her find “that missing part of my life”.

“We are only 5 weeks into our affair but I feel a new lease on life.

“I feel that Ashley Madison has allowed me to find that missing part of my life which is intimacy with someone genuine who wants the same thing,” she says.

The website, which caters exclusively to infidelity and has almost 35 million members worldwide, stresses that it does not necessarily encourage people to have affairs.

“If you are having difficulty with your marriage or relationship, you should seek counselling.

“However, if you still feel that you will seek a person other than your partner to fill your unmet needs, then we truly believe that our service is the best place to start”.
