Plans for revitalising the Turramurra community facilities have been well underway over the last couple of years, particularly as it is a long-term goal in the Council’s Community Strategic Plan and 2013-2017 budgeting. This Saturday, residents of the Ku-ring-gai area are invited to discuss and give feedback on the latest draft plan for Turramurra’s developments.

The information day will be at Ray Street car park in William Street Turramurra between 10am and 3pm on Saturday 30 April. In order to ensure that the desires of the community are met, residents of the area are invited to drop in for free sausage sizzle and talk to staff about the plan.

The overall program is planned to breathe new life into Turramurra under the name Activate Ku-ring-gai, which also includes development for St Ives, Gordon, Pymble, Lindfield and Roseville shopping centres.

The planned Turramurra Community Hub will be located between the railway line, Ray Street and the Pacific Highway. It is designed to have a mix of retail and community buildings such as a new local library, an additional park, a new town square and a multi-purpose community centre. The plan also includes a full line supermarket, retail shops and residential apartments.

Mayor Cheryl Szatow said the draft plan had already been drawn up with input from the local community.

“There is a wide mix of families living in Turramurra now and the Hub has been designed with that in mind.

“People were quite clear when we talked to them about what they want for their local area. But we would still like to hear more ideas from residents, particularly about how the open space and community facilities could be used in the future.”

Some of the concerns that were revealed in the initial surveys completed included parking for the new facilities as well as all day parking in the area. Residents also showed an interest in having more cafes and restaurants and more activities for families and kids.
