Feel like taking a holiday later this year? Aussie workers are starting to accrue more leave and now have over 134 million days – or nearly 367 thousand years – saved up between them, according to market research group Roy Morgan, with more than a third of workers having over four weeks of leave each.

The latest survey also shows that just over eighty per cent of workers are planning to take a holiday some time over the next year. If you’ve got leave but need some ideas, Sydney Observer brings you a few quick and easy getaways.

Hunter Valley, NSW

Just a few hours north of Sydney, the Hunter Valley has something for everyone. Bushwalk around the historic Mulla Villa in Wollombi, taste your way through the wineries of Pokolbin or if you’re into history visit Maitland’s famous historic gaol.

South Coast, NSW

If you would prefer a coastal getaway, where better for a quick escape than the south coast – only a short drive away. Catch a wave at Shellharbour’s Killilea Beach, with over 250 hectares of unspoilt coastal reserve, or hire a kayak and explore the river systems, lakes and bays around Moruya and Batemans Bay. If getting out on the water isn’t your thing, try the Moruya cycleway or learn about Australian fauna at Potoroo Palace in Merimbula.

Blue Mountains, NSW

When it comes to adventure, few places beat the Blue Mountains! For the brave hearted, nothing compares to canyoning through the ‘Tigersnake’ or abseiling at Malaita Point, as well as a range of other canyoning, rock climbing and hiking opportunities throughout the region. Afterwards, relax at one of the many cafes or bars in Leura, Wentworth Falls or Katoomba, check out the local shops like The Lollybug in Little Hartley (with over 1500 different kinds of lollies) or enjoy a high tea at the newly refurbished Hydro Majestic Hotel in Medlow Bath.
