It is Sydney’s most northernmost suburb, one of its smallest and possibly one of its best kept secrets. But the town of Brooklyn, part of Hornsby Shire Council, is set to get a makeover as part of the Council’s Brooklyn Master Improvement Plan.
“Brooklyn is a special place, not only to those lucky enough to live there but also to the broader community,” Hornsby Shire Mayor Steve Russell said.
“We’re going to put in a major effort to make it an even more pleasant place to live, work and play.”
According to the 2011 Census, Brooklyn has a population of just 744 – making it one of Sydney’s smallest suburbs. The need for the Brooklyn Master Improvement Plan emerged after a council survey identified improvements needed to public facilities and the opportunity to further develop tourism and growth in the area.
Since the survey, a case study released by the McCrindle Institute earlier this month identified recent redevelopments to the waterside park at Brooklyn’s Kangaroo Point as one of the council’s major facility upgrades to help improve community lifestyle.
“The first step is finding out what the community wants and I encourage everybody with a stake in the future of Brooklyn to get involved,” Mayor Russell said.
“We want to know what’s working and what’s not, what makes Brooklyn unique and what the possibilities could be.”
